Your ride starts from Palazzolo Acreide but, before leaving it, you will have time to walk through its old town: picturesque streets in the medieval part of the city. Cycling along the Hyblaean territory, landscapes are sometimes wild and bare and sometimes rich in vegetation. This area features dry stone walls as borders among private properties. You will finally arrive in the enchanting city of Modica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Before leaving the town of Modica, an amazing aristocratic village rising on a cliff, you should taste the delicious spicy chocolate and visit the magnificen 18th century Church of San Giorgio. You will cycle downhill along a typical quarry of the Iblei, reaching the evocative town of Scicli. You will visit the centre with Piazza Italia and some impressive buildings such as the Saint Barthelemy Church, looking over a rocky landscape of ever-changing colours. After the visit, you will ride up to the marine centre of Pozzallo.
Today you will cycle on the flat, until you reach the Isola delle Correnti, the most remote point of the continent, between the Ionian and the Mediterranean sea, the same latitude as Tunisi. On the way you will have the chance to taste the delicious wine “Vino d’Avola”, locally produced.
Firstly you will cycle on the flat, after you’ll be gradually riding uphill towards north, passing by Marzamemi and through the pristine Vendicari Natural Oasis, area of great scientific interest with a lot of flora and fauna species. Our trip continues towards north ending in the city of Noto, the capital of Baroque.
You start your day enjoying a staple of Sicilian cuisine: the Granita (crushed ice flavoured with fresh fruit or nuts and sugar) accompanied by a traditional brioche (a soft, fragrant sweetbread). After, you will continue on the flat along the coast towards Syracuse, capital of the Magna Grecia.
